African Union is recruiting a Principal Statistics Officer - AOSTI, to be based in Luanda, Angola.
Duties
- Clean and validate research data according to the client’s specifications and within time constraints
- Manage datasets and provide customised statistical results to clients
- Produce customized tables, statistics and graphs
- Develop mathematical/statistical models to inform science, technology and innovation policies
- Participate in project teams to ensure that all statistical analyses are in line with the requirement of a project
- Participate in proposal development activities to earn external funding
- Provide mentorship in statistical skills to researchers and external clients
- Oversee and coordinate S&T and related surveys in participating countries
- Advise AU member states on the reliability of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) indicators and on the improvement of the data collating processes
- Design, roll out and monitor standardised templates and metadata, reports and project tools to support STI and related surveys
- Serve as a resource person for the AOSTI publications especially the production of STI statistics in the African Innovation Outlook Series
- Provide mentorship in statistical skills to researchers and external clients
- Maintain the reputation of the AOSTI by the relevance, quality, completeness timeliness, and accessibility of the STI information
- Perform any other related tasks as delegated by the Executive Secretary of AOSTI
Requisites
- A minimum of Master’s degree in mathematical Statistics, Economics or other related field
- A minimum of eight (8) years of working experience in the field of statistics
- Knowledge of statistical techniques
- Communication skills, including oral and written presentation and the interpreting of statistical matters for lay audiences
- Strong analytical, research, technical and organizational skills; Ability to undertake and manage a variety of research projects for a range of audiences
- The ability to contribute to the preparation of project bids for research and consultancy activities
- IT skills, familiarity with MS Office and statistical software such as SPSS, SAS
- Familiarity with other computational software is desirable
- Team working skills, the ability to work effectively with other professionals in general
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to an effective team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A thorough background and experience in statistics and education research with an appropriate professional qualification
- Experience of research and application of quantitative meth
