Control and Automation Engineer

BP is recruiting a Control and Automation Engineer, to be based in Luanda, Angola.
Duties
  • Supports delivery for Control & Automation (C&A) Engineering Related queries/activities coming from the Area Operations team
  • Supports Area Engineering Services Team Leader (AESTL) to manage Area C&A Engineering risks
  • Champions defect elimination and Continuous improvement to support production forecast and grow IPC
  • People - provides coaching to C&A Engineering Challengers
  • Supports delivery of the 12wk plan execution readiness
  • Contributes to and learns from others through the local and global C&A Engineering CoP
  • People Management: Coaches Challenge C&A Engineers
  • Participates in the Regional C&A Engineering meetings
  • OMS & Operating Discipline: Ensures operating discipline on activities specific to the Area C&A Engineering role to sustain safe, reliable and compliant operations
  • Provides input into OMS gap assessments
  • Ensures Area C&A Engineering risks are understood controlled and continuously reduced, to deliver safe operating results
  • Supports conformance with BP and regulatory requirements
  • Area Risk Management, Process Safety and Integrity;
  • Provides daily C&A engineering support to Area operations team and is the first point of contact for any issues associated with control and safety system hardware and software e.g. HMI issues, system security, package interface issues etc.
  • Day to day management and continuous improvement of the Control and Alarms LoPs across the area by reviewing associated KPI data e.g. alarm system metrics, control loop performance, advanced control utilization etc.
  • Supports delivery of process safety, integrity and environmental performance
  • Ensures the C&A engineering information is up to date in the Area risk register including actions and due dates
  • Acts as coordinator or reviewer for C&A engineering management of change
  • Participates in risk assessments and longer term Area engineering studies e.g. HAZOPs, LOPAs
  • Provides technical input on operations procedures where required
  • Monitor C&A engineering key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensures C&A engineering documents are up to date e.g. Alarm Response Manual
  • Ensure appropriate C&A engineering codes, BP Practices and standards are adhered to when modifications are being made
  • Works with R&M on Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) spares management and health care provision
  • Support the on-going implementation of Control and Alarm Fit for Service (F4S) 'Condition' and 'Operate' barrier requirements
  • Performance Management, Production Optimisation and Plant Reliability
  • Attends production meetings and perform responsibilities as defined in EP SDP 6.1-001 PEI & DE Upstream Practice
  • Provides input into Area defect elimination, initiates RCFAs for production losses and identifies production vulnerabilities
  • Participates and provides input into AESTL meeting cadence as required
  • Supports AESTL to analyse Area performance data and to create interventions as required
  • Participate in CI initiatives where relevant
  • Participate in area performance reviews when requested
  • Drive C&A standardisation at a level
  • Performs day to day plant optimisation e.g. loop tuning, control scheme improvements, and sequence improvements tracks and manages ICSS and other automation system defects, risks and vulnerabilities
  • Works with R&M to manage ICSS and other automation system obsolescence coordinating and planning with discipline engineering team as appropriate
  • Communicates C&A lessons learned to Site Personnel
  • Planning & Efficient Execution of Work: Provides input to ensure gate criteria readiness for activities entering the Area 12wk plans are enforced
  • Delivery of minor modifications and repairs (less than Cat C type activities) as agreed between AOM and Engineering Services Manager e.g. minor C&A modifications
  • Cost management of the agreed budgets for activities assigned
  • Self-verification: Conduct self-verification on key operations and engineering processes and procedures as required e.g. Overrides, C&A Engineering standards being followed etc.
  • Follows up on actions and observations from self-verification checks that are related to C&A engineering
  • Self-verify that ICSS change management, digital security and other C&A site procedures are being followed
Requisites
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Minimum of 13 years of experience
  • Strong understanding and application of process safety in the C&A discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-discipline team and collaborate effectively across Operations sub-functions
