Vice-President, Communications & External Affairs

BP is recruiting a Vice-President, Communications & External Affairs, to be based in Luanda, Angola.
Duties
  • Use coaching to develop the C&EA team's skills, capabilities and performance for consistent, high quality delivery
  • Import global best practice to maximize attainment of business objectives
  • Work closely with the Deputy General Manager and Regional President to develop a coherent strategy and processes to identify and manage all relevant non-technical risks in Region and in country
  • Create, and execute agreed annual reputation plans and budgets to protect and build value for BP's regional business activities and future aspirations, and to protect and build the reputation of the BP Group
  • Ensure that the annual reputation plan incorporates:
  • C&EA talent management, succession and capability development plans, extended where appropriate to other Regional staff - e.g. media and crisis response training
  • External and internal themes and messages consistent with the BP Group key themes and messages, together with coherent channel management plans to deliver these and other messages as required
  • Strong implementation of sustainable development programmes
  • Processes and systematic activities to drive alignment of understanding and coordinated messaging about the BP Group and BP's activities in Region
  • Stakeholder management programmes in compliance with the C&EA Policy, which reach out to relevant government bodies, and to other key external stakeholder groups and communities
  • Any agreed BP brand activities, and or reputation measurement activities in country or in Region
  • Lead and/or coordinate the execution of agreed communication and external affairs activity for the Region, ensuring coherence and consistency
  • Lead monitoring and assessment of political, economic and societal risk and mitigations
  • Take a proactive role in managing the media in this Region, and acting as a spokesperson as needed
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to the Regional C&EA team
  • Participate in the Group C&EA Executive Team and relevant functional Communities of Practice
Requisites
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A strong track record of successfully coaching and developing individuals and teams
  • Demonstrated experience in Communications and External Affairs, particularly working in challenging environments
  • Substantial experience in managing non-technical risk, key stakeholders and business relationships in challenging environments
  • Proven leadership and performance management experience
  • Significant experience in strategic planning and alignment of messages and positions with business strategies and goals
  • Substantial experience in press and media management; and a good understanding of social media
  • Significant project management and/or campaign planning experience
  • Experience effectively leading culturally diverse teams
  • Proven track record of influencing and managing relationships at senior level
  • A team player with the energy and enthusiasm to make a difference and lead a winning team
